In conjunction with our special exhibition Van Gogh Alive, the Museum presents a special lecture by George Fifield, founder and director of Boston Cyberarts, Inc. As an expert on the intersection of arts and technology, Fifield’s talk will offer a valuable historical perspective on the ways technology has impacted the history of art. He is the founder and director of Boston Cyberarts, Inc., a nonprofit arts organization that produced the biennial Boston Cyberarts Festival and currently manages The Boston Cyberarts Gallery inside the Green Street MBTA station on the Orange line. Fifield is a long-time Jamaica Plain resident. From 1993 to 2006, Fifield was curator of new media at the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln, MA. The Boston Cyberarts Festival celebrated a long tradition of technological and artistic innovation throughout Massachusetts from 1999 through 2011. The festival showcased artists and high-technology professionals from around the world who use new technology to advance traditional visual and performing arts disciplines. Boston Cyberarts also works on a variety of special projects in Boston, including Art on the Marquee, in partnership with the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority. Boston Cyberarts, the National Park Service, and the Boston Harbor Islands Alliance are also collaborating on an ongoing project to commission public algorithmic art for display on the LED screens at the park Welcome Center on the Greenway between Faneuil Hall and the Ferry Ticket Center on Long Wharf. Fifield was nominated for the Boston Art Commission by the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Il Massaggiatore e Capo Bagnino degli Stabilimenti Idroterapici (MCB) è una professione abilitante all’esercizio dell’Arte Ausiliaria delle Professioni Sanitarie riconosciuta dal Ministero della Salute. Opera in via autonoma o con altre figure sanitarie, in regime di libera professione o subordinata, in strutture sanitarie pubbliche o private. Svolge le proprie mansioni nell’ambito del massaggio terapeutico, sportivo e del benessere. E’ in grado di effettuare la propria attività con l’ausilio degli apparati elettromedicali ed altre terapie quali: idroterapia, balneoterapia e terapia fisica. La durata del corso è di 1 anno (grazie al riconoscimento dei crediti già acquisiti in altri percorsi formativi) e le lezioni sono organizzate in due weekend al mese. In ambito terapeutico, il titolo è requisito valido per l’assunzione in strutture convenzionate con il SSN (Servizio Sanitario Nazionale) o SSR (Servizio Sanitario Regionale). Il diplomato in MCB può: - aprire una propria attività massoterapica tramite semplice presentazione di DIAP (Dichiarazione di Inizio di Attività Produttiva) al Comune o all’ASL di competenza, in tale ambito, può erogare massaggi terapeutici (emettendo regolare fattura esentiva), previa semplice prescrizione medica; - operare mediante massoterapia, idroterapia, balneoterapia, o anche tramite l'uso di apparati elettromedicali in ausilio alle professioni medico-sanitarie presso terme, spa e centri idroterapici; - eseguire attività di massaggio e manovre meccaniche su organi e tessuti del corpo a fini preventivi, igienici o del benessere; - collaborare con le altre figure in ambito sanitario e riabilitativo secondo prescrizione medica; - richiedere l'inserimento nell'Albo e nei Ruoli del Settore Tecnico della F.I.G.C. con qualifica di “OPERATORE SANITARIO”. Venice Carnival Workshop - one or two day option

This one day or two day workshop will guide you to getting fantastic images of Venice Carnival and the city itself. Starting at 8am to catch the early morning light and before the crowds build we will start with going through settings and equipment together with ideas for composition of images. We will then head in to St Marks Square and the lagoon front area for a session shooting the many carnival characters- some free time will also be given.  We then will proceed from St Marks Square to the Rialto area where we will have time for lunch (not included) and a debrief on the morning's activities. With it's bustling market and of course the fantastic Grand Canal and Rialto bridge this area is a vibrant and interesting location and again full instruction will be given on making the most of the opportunity.  We then head in to lesser known and quieter areas of Venice where we will look for some atmospheric images of the wonderful architecture and expect to meet up with more carnival characters in a more relaxed locations before heading back towards the St Marks's square area in time to capture the later afternoon and early evening light as it glances across the fantastic architecture and carnival characters. The workshop will conclude at around 6pm when you can then capture Venice in the evening, at night or do whatever you wish. Following the course, you will receive a full set of notes, hints and tips together with a link to view the images taken by the tutor, plus you can submit your images (up to 10) for a critique by the tutor withing 14 days. If you have booked the two day workshop this covers the same format as this course on the first day but then moves on to capture more of Venice and the beatiful islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello on the second day. again concluding back in St Mark's square around 6pm.
