Terracotta: Past, Present and Future This conference is designed to provide a historical context for the use of terracotta and faïence in architectural structures and the latest information on the restoration and refurbishment of buildings bearing these materials, as well as promote the use of terracotta and faïence in contemporary new-build projects. The conference is suitable for all those involved in conservation, refurbishment and new-build architectural activities - whether in local government, architectural practice, project management or training and education. Leading practitioners in the field of architectural conservation; the manufacturers of terracotta and faïence; and designers of new-build construction featuring these materials will be among the panel of speakers. The conference will include a tour of some of the most important buildings in central Manchester as well as a visit to a major manufacturer of both conservation and new-build architectural terracotta and faïence. Outline agenda: DAY ONE will include presentations covering the history of architectural terracotta and faïence, the range of   terracotta buildings, manufacturers, and process from design to build. This will be followed by an introduction to conservation: causes of degradation, then questions and discussion. In the afternoon there will be a visit to Darwen Terracotta and Faience including coach travel to the factory where handcrafted, traditional methods are combined with modern kiln-firing technology. Lunch is provided en-route. DAY TWO  focuses on conservation in the present: cleaning of terracotta and faience; conservation practice;     case studies of conservation projects. In the afternoon there will be a walking tour of architectural ceramic sites in central Manchester followed by talks on manufacture, architectural design, and new-build terracotta projects with an overview of the current use of terracotta in new buildings and where this is made; an architect's view of using terracotta in new buildings; further views and discussion of the use in new buildings. 5pm close. Piko Pals - Ewa Beach - Saturdays - Starting November 23rd

Piko Pals is a 12-week program of Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawaii that aims to foster social connection, community, and peer support for new parents in their first year. Participants and their newborn babies meet weekly in small groups, and support each other through mindful discussion about new parenting concerns like postpartum recovery and breastfeeding, baby sleep, partner relationship changes, career vs. parenthood, siblings, and more. Parents are encouraged to discover their own parenting philosophy and are encouraged to listen to their intuition in a emotionally and intellectually safe environment. Piko Pals aims to set the foundation for true connection and friendship, so that when parents complete our program, they continue to support each other throughout their parenting journey.
