Barcelona Taste Food Tour, Gothic Quarter // Tuesday, 28 January

The Gótico Tapas Tour takes you through Barcelona’s famous Gothic Quarter, in the Ciutat Vella (old city) – past Roman walls, alongside cathedrals, through precious plazas and, most importantly, in-and-out of small local restaurants that will leave you sated, jolly, and with a better understanding of local Catalan and national Spanish cuisine.  Gótico was our first tour, is our first love, and remains a great traditional option in Barcelona’s most historic setting.  First time in Barcelona?  This is the one for you!  The low-down on our Barcelona tapas tour This is not a historical walking tour with a snack at the end. Our 3 hour tour stops in 3 small food establishments, ranging from high-quality specialty shops to home-style tapas restaurants, each one with its own scrumptious specialties for you to taste. Your knowledgeable guide will safely lead you, all the while sharing stories about Barcelona life, food and history. You will enjoy all the cuisine, and, due to the small size of the group, you will also enjoy a more personal, relaxed experience. Our tour groups are typically no larger than 6; meaning we can discreetly visit venues loved by locals and genuinely enjoy each other’s company. Indeed, by the end of the night we usually feel we’ve made lifelong friends!

CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) Certification Preparation Course- Live Online

While the Project Management Professional (PMP®) credential is targeted at experienced project managers, the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) does not require previous project management experience. The CAPM eligibility requirements are: High school diploma, associate’s degree, or global equivalent Plus 23 hours of formal project management education Having satisfied the eligibility requirements, a CAPM-candidate must sit a 3-hour 150 question exam. The exam tests the candidate’s knowledge of the Project Management Institute’s (Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide)). Upon successfully passing the exam, the candidate becomes a CAPM for a period of five years. At the end of the five year period the individual must re-take the CAPM exam to retain their CAPM designation. The key to passing the exam is to understand the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) view of project management. This means reviewing and understanding PMI’s PMBOK® Guide, but also becoming familiar with how PMI expects project managers to apply that knowledge. In most cases, this requires CAPM-candidates to become familiar with new concepts during their preparation, and/or to “unlearn” practices that they have picked up over the years. Open Lectures - The Literal Male Gaze in ‘The Silence of the Lambs’

Open Lectures Our Open Lectures series celebrates the research, projects, collaborations, events and professional practices of our teaching staff at the Centre for Open Learning. Our courses are designed and taught by an extraordinary range of talented and dedicated academics, practitioners and professionals. Many enjoy long and distinguished careers whilst others are in the early stages, perhaps in the midst of their postdoctoral study or working on their first book or exhibition. Our new series will bring our learning community together to listen and engage with our tutors, as they reveal the story behind their own practices and research, perhaps through a funded project, a commission or continuing professional development. The Literal Male Gaze in ‘The Silence of the Lambs' What do Laura Mulvey and Hannibal Lecter have in common? In this lecture, Jonathan Demme’s 1991 masterpiece The Silence of the Lambs will be analysed through the prism of feminist film theory, specifically Laura Mulvey’s concept of the male gaze. The Silence of the Lambs is a film about the eyes: what the eyes see, what they choose to avoid and windows to the soul. Jonathan Demme’s penchant for full-frame and centered closeups on actors is used to maximum effect in this film, often having their eyes looking directly at the camera. There are so many levels to the way eyes are used in this film, but one can easily start by drawing parallels between the film’s themes of voyeurism and a literal male gaze. Looking at four specific scenes, this lecture will explore how the film’s beautiful cinematography can be repurposed as symbolism for the strong feminist message underlying the film. Andrew Rooke Andrew Rooke is an award-winning Canadian filmmaker and Teaching Fellow at the University of Edinburgh Centre for Open Learning. His work has been screened in film festivals and public television around the world. Andrew currently teaches the Introduction to Filmmaking at the Centre for Open Learning which offers a comprehensive look all aspects necessary to create a short film. Ticket and Event Information The event is free and open to the public. To secure your place, tickets have to be booked in advance via this page. The lecture will take place in a lecture theatre which is accessible to wheelchair users and equipped with an induction loop system.
