Annual Japanese Spring Festival
The Japanese Spring Festival invites guests to experience Japanese culture firsthand through interactive and immersive encounters including thundering performances of Taiko drumming by Fushu Daiko, Ikebana floral design workshops, traditional Japanese tea ceremonies, hands-on origami lessons and a Japanese Marketplace. A family-friendly event, the Japanese Spring Festival also offers a children’s corner featuring storytelling and arts and crafts.

We invite you to explore the video recording and streaming platform called VidGrid. If you are familiar with Panopto Lecture Capture and ShareStream Video Hosting Website, then VidGrid is for you! Vidgrid has a great interface that is user friendly and includes built-in features to increase student interactivity and engagement within Canvas. Once you create a video, you have the ability to embed quiz questions as the video plays. These scores are then transferred directly to the Canvas gradebook. This is a 60-minute session (45-minute instruction session; 15-minute Q&A) This session can be offered online. If you want to attend this session online, please send an email to cidat@sxu.edu to request a Zoom link send to you. The session will be canceled if nobody registers 24 hours prior to the session.

Open to students in grades three to six Back by popular demand, JazzReach returns to Blacksburg with an immersive, globally themed multimedia program. Big Drum / Small World features performances of all new commissions by prominent, internationally recognized jazz composers hailing from countries as diverse as West Africa, Israel, Cuba, Puerto Rico, India, and the United States. The program also features fun, short video interludes that offer biographical background on each of the project's composers and commentary on the various ways that both the American jazz tradition and their individual cultural heritages have informed and inspired their respective visions and artistic sensibilities. Big Drum / Small World aims to promote the value of creative collaboration and the unique way that jazz provides a forum to explore our differences, share ideas and discover common ground.
