Arabic Calligraphy: Tools and Techniques

Arabic calligraphy is written using a traditional pen made of reed. The earliest style is known as the Kufic style, which has sharper edges and corners compared to many of the other later developed styles such as Thuluth, Diwani, Riq’ah and others.

In this course, you will learn all the basic techniques of this magnificent art, in addition to various tools and methods to perfect this craft. These writing styles can be thought of as different font types, and the tip of the reed pen is cut differently for each. Through this course students will learn about the various writing styles and techniques of the art of the written word.

nonPareil Institute Comes to Orlando!

Join the leadership of the nonPareil Institute to learn how they are turning lives around for adults with ASD seeking careers in coding, technology, game development and app creation! nonPareil is gearing up to open an expansion center in Orlando. Learn more about the program, the plans and how you can get involved to create superior career options for individuals with ASD. Featured on NPR, NBC Nightly News and USA Today, nonPareil is getting noticed for its innovative approach to building on the strengths and interests of adults with ASD. Its first full-time nonPareil operation began on the campus of SMU-in-Plano, TX in September 2010. This site, which opened with 8 students, quickly grew to 52 students in the first 8 months. One year later, more space was acquired, and the program grew to over 80 students. The program now has over 200 active Crewmembers between 2 locations, with more on the way--including one in Central Florida. Teaching self-advocacy is an important part of a students journey from school-age to adulthood. This essential skill set prepares students to cope with challenges and overcome matters that arise in the future.
