HAPPY NEW YEAR, volunteers, friends, and potentially strangers perusing philanthropic chicagoland websites. Hopefully you're all rested, refreshed, and ready to be continuously sarcastically razzed by an email well into the new year. Just remember - it's all for a good cause. Speaking of good causes, let's get right down to it! This month, we're starting the new year off right by working with GRIP Outreach For Youth at Wells High School since we liked working with them so much last time. Like Jack said to an insanely loyal and confused audience of millions of people, "We have to go back, Kate." For those of you not named Kate, this still applies to you. What besides the smoke monster is compelling us to... what? There was no smoke monster at Wells? Huh. Probably because we did SUCH A GOOD JOB CLEANING - which is what we'll be doing in round 2 of our efforts.Cleaning, organizing, decorating, painting, and anything else that helps improve the learning environment for youth to ensure they have the best possible chance of having a positive, engaging, and fruitful educational experience. With schools, like my 401k, being routinely underfunded, this should go a long way! Just as boring and far more helpful than my retirement funds - event details! The nearest L stop is the Division Blue Line, and the nearest bus routes are the 9, 156, and 73. If, like us, you're still nursing some residuals from NYE, we'll have Advil, Coffee, water, and some healthy snacks to keep you goin' throughout the day. As with any event that involves painting, we always recommend wearing clothes you don't mind completely ruining like some Yeezy leather joggers or perhaps a 10 year old pair of crocs. Why not both?  As always, we'll meet up afterward for some decompressing and shenanigans at a local(ish) haunt, likely with a volunteer-specific discount so you see short-term AND long term benefits to being a good person. More details to follow! So get ready to start the year off right by improving the learning environment of youth in Chicago, making a tangible difference in their day-to-day lives, and fostering a stronger and more engaging connection between Chicago's youth, their educators, and their mentors.  About the Organization: GRIP The School (GTS) is an initiative dedicated to assisting Chicago’s under-resourced and often underachieving public schools–cultivating adult/youth Life-on-Life relationships to create a safer and more effective learning environment for teens.
