Microplastics, whilst tiny, pack a big punch. They have been around for more than five decades and we have unknowingly let them into our homes, closets and everyday lives.Microplastics have replaced the natural ingredients of our personal care products, cosmetics such as toothpaste, facial and body scrubs, everyday food items and into some of the clothes we love to wear. It's now time to start  thinking about the effects of microplastic on our health, well-being and everyday lives and what we can all do about it.Dr Thava Palanisami, a leading researcher and academic on microplastics will be discussing his recent research for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), with startling findings indicating we may be ingesting up to 2000 pieces of microplastic per week. You may have seen Dr Palanisami featured on ABC news last week. Dr Palanisami will talk about his research discoveries, leading global solutions for change, and ways we can all be a part of the solution. It's time to take a science deep dive into microplastics to investigate how we can use Dr Palanisami's research findings for plastic free solutions in our everyday lives.Dr Scott Wilson from Macquarie University will also be presenting on the night to discuss the AUSMAP citizen science microplastic project.Limited tickets are available for this event and you are encouraged to book early to avoid missing out. This event is being run in partnership with North Sydney Council, Mosman Council and Lane Cove Council.
