PL/SQL for Test Automation
Course goals Most database tests can be described in a simple way – verify that a field meets the specified requirements and if it does, the test passes. All such tests have a unified way to state expected results – either the fields are always equal or they’re not. These tests can be automated. This course aims towards this automation. We will learn the basics of PL/SQL – a procedural extension of Oracle SQL – and show how it can be used to run tests in a loop, verify the query results against expected outcomes and log the test runs. This will allow the tester to run a script in the evening and check the results in the morning, verifying reported incidents. We will learn how to modify existing tests so they can be automated, import them into database and create a procedure and several auxiliary functions that will run specified tests one after another until all are completed. The procedure will log the results of each test into a logging table along with timestamps, whether the test passed or not and if it failed, for how many rows it did. This course is very technical. Most basic and some advanced SQL techniques are required. Knowledge of basic query structure, subselects, and the basic types of joins will be assumed. Knowledge of DML and DDL commands will be useful but not necessary as we will go over the important ones. Previous programming experience is not necessary at all. It is held in Czech.

BCM Adds a Little Lego Levity to Traditional Holiday Displays COVINGTON, KY-- Mammoths and minions and mansions . . .oh my! These eclectic exhibits, all constructed from Legos, join more traditional Christmas displays in Holidays@BCM, Behringer- Crawford Museum's annual celebration. Designed with family fun and safety in mind, Holidays@BCM offers an engaging adventure for kids and a relaxing and affordable break for parents amid the holiday bustle. Each of the museum's four floors are filled with fun and action. While the museum's Holiday Toy Trains aren't running this year due to the pandemic, there are BCM’s animated carnival with its whirling rides and sideshow barkers and the Victorian Christmas village with its ceramic reproductions of structures from Charles Dickens’ novels. Dancing ice dogs and glittering winter scenes from the children’s book, The Holiday Adventures of Wiley Wahoo and Me by Kenton Hills author Diana Grady fill one room at the museum, while another displays a giant Lego Quidditch World Cup stadium straight out of the pages of Harry Potter books. Other Lego displays created by the Ohio-Kentucky- Indiana Lego Users group (OKILUG) include a miniature wooly mammoth display in the prehistoric area, bespectacled yellow minions standing guard in the galleries and an elegant “Brickmore” mansion, designed after the majestic Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. A vintage kitchen display features appliances, accessories and an aluminum Christmas tree that might have been found in a midcentury suburban tenement. Antique toys, singing holiday characters and decorations throughout the museum carry out the theme of holidays through the years. As a special gift to the community, the museum will present “BCM’s Virtual Holiday Countdown” on its Facebook page, with special performances and demonstrations by entertainers, artists and others who have partnered with BCM during the year. The preliminary line-up includes Jake Speed, Katherine Nero, Nicole Zuraitis and Dan Pugach, Cedric Cox, John Lomax and the Hills of Kentucky Dulcimers. How to model and project the balance sheet of the bank? What are the key equilibrium and the major threats? How to classify and handle balance sheet risks? Are the regulatory and the economic views coherent? What is expected from ALM managers? When should management actions be triggered? What can we learn from passed crises? What are the current issues? What are the principles and mechanisms of Asset Liability Management in banks? The purpose of this 3-day seminar is to introduce the principles and mechanisms of asset liability management in banks. During these three days, we address all the issues relevant to this essential matter, from balance sheet modelling and projection to managing structural risks. These are illustrated by a number of business cases and exercises that facilitate the assimilation of the concepts and techniques presented. On day 1, we sketch the global functioning of the Bank, to position the “raison d’etre” of the ALM in regards to the business objectives and their interactions. Once the ALM’s role is defined, we devise the resources and the organization required for a successful mission. This includes describing the ALM ecosystem, with its Steering Committee called the ALCO, the various teams and their responsibilities, from the valuation of financial instruments to the management of balance sheet risks such as interest rate, liquidity and currency risks. Also, we learn how to transfer these risks to the ALM using appropriate mechanisms and funds transfer pricing. Day 2 focuses on the techniques used for valuing assets and liabilities and measuring balance sheet risks. In order to value financial instruments, we learn how to generate their expected future cash flows under various conditions. We discover how aggregating these cash flows and assessing possible future cash shortfalls form the basis for assessing balance sheet risks. We also look at applicable regulations (LCR, NSFR, IRRBB…) and put them in perspective with the economic reality. Issues related to options and credit risk (IFRS 9) are also addressed. A number of exercises and games facilitate assimilating these principles and techniques. Day 3 addresses the management issues related to ALM and operational matters. You learn how to control and mitigate risks, and a number of key questions are addressed: What risks should be taken? Up to what level? How to hedge risks? How does ALM relate to risk management and to risk budgeting and risk appetite? What is expected from ALM professionals and how do they interact with other functions in the bank? Finally, we look at the current matters of concern to the ALM community, such as the macro prudential policy, low interest rates, the resolution fund and new technologies. We finish the seminar with a series of exercises/games aimed at rehearsing all the major elements learned during these three days: The role and the positioning of the ALM, assets valuation principles, balance sheet risks identification, measurement and management, applicable regulations, and finally current concerns.
