This Awards Day is run by the RAD South East of England and has been set up to provide RAD students, based in the South East region and aged 7-17 years, an opportunity to take part in a fun, open level ballet class and compete for a place at the Awards Day final.
2020 South East Centenary Awards Final: Part of the Royal Academy of Dance Centenary celebrations. We are proud to announce that the Final of the 2020 South East Centenary Awards is one of '100 events in 100 places' to celebrate the Centenary of the Royal Academy of Dance. To find out more about the Academy's celebrations, please visit https://www.royalacademyofdance.org/rad100/
The Awards take place in two parts;
1. Firstly, students must take part in a county heat where they will be adjudicated based on criteria set out by the Royal Academy of Dance. The adjudicator at all the heats will be Darren Parish PDTD, DPBMN, RAD RTS.
2. Approximately 6-8 finalists will then be selected from each class at each county heat to attend the Final in London at RAD Headquarters, where a winner from each class will be decided. Darren Parish will be teaching the classes at the Final and two prestigious judges will adjudicate to select the winners.
Candidates will be judged throughout the class on their ability to demonstrate the following three elements in their work:
Technique - Incorporating co-ordination, alignment, use of space, line through the body, secure stretched leg extensions, elevation with controlled landings, articulated footwork
Musicality - Incorporating correct timing, rhythmical accuracy, and response to phrasing, dynamics and atmosphere
Performance - Incorporating expression and communication
