Do you want to feel confident in supporting children with a hearing loss in your early years setting?
Deaf children can do anything other children can do, given the right support from the start. Effective language and communication skills lie at the heart of their social, emotional and intellectual development.This workshop has been created to help mainstream early years practitioners to feel confident in supporting children with hearing loss, in their early years setting.
This programme will give you an understanding of what deafness is and explain some of its causes whilst exploring best practices when communicating with children with a hearing loss. You’ll have the opportunity to learn some basic signs and explore how you can use books and rhymes to support children with a hearing loss.

FAQs
Who is the course for?Mainstream early years practitioners.
Do I need to book my own communication support?
No - please let us know what communication support you require and we will book it for you.
How much does it cost?
£40 per delegate, payable via credit/debit card, cheque or invoice.
Can I book a place without a purchase order number?
Yes. If you are waiting for a PO number to be approved, enter 'to be confirmed' when registering and let us know the number once approved.
How do I find out your bank details?
If you need our bank details in order to add the National Deaf Children's Society as a supplier on your finance system, again please contact us and we can send these to you (training@ndcs.org.uk).
Do I need to do any prep before attending?
No, however we do ask that you complete the pre-course survey before attending (sent once you have booked on.)
What are my transport options for getting to and from the event?
The centre is a 12 minute walk from Manchester Piccadilly station. Full transport details can be found here.

Is catering provided?
Refreshments, such as tea, coffee and water will be available.
Can I give my place to a friend or colleague if I can't come?
Yes, however you must notify us in advance, at least 5 days before the workshop takes place via training@ndcs.org.uk.
What if I need to cancel?
If the;
Delegate cancels 20 working days or less before the planned date, a charge of 100% of the total cost will be made
Delegate cancels 21 - 30 working days before the planned date, a charge of 50% will be made
Delegate cancels 31 working days before the planned date, no charge will be made.
This course will run subject to enough delegates booking on. We will let you know whether the course will run two weeks prior to the scheduled date. We advise that you do not book travel or accommodation prior to that confirmation as we will not be able to refund expenses in case of cancellation.
