Bakehouse invites you to a conversation with artist Olalekan Jeyifous
Process and Practice
Thursday, January 17, 6:30pm
About the talk: Jeyifous will discuss his trajectory and process, which combines digital illustration and 3D computer modeling with manipulated photographs, hand-drawing, and collage, resulting in a creative output that is steeped in eco-political ideology and activism that examines architecture, art, and its relationship to place and community.
About the artist: Nigerian-born, Brooklyn-based visual artist, Olalekan Jeyifous (b. 1977) received his BArch from Cornell University. His work has been exhibited at the Studio Museum, MoMA, Vitra Design Museum, Guggenheim Bilbao, among others. He is recipient of numerous prestigious grants, fellowships and residencies.
About his work: Jeyifous creates artwork strongly rooted in either borrowed or invented narratives. More often than not this results in the construction of comprehensive Utopias, Dystopias, or Heterotopias that deal with the interstices of architecture, emerging technologies, and culture; anchoring them with a direct relevance to contemporary social issues in ways that both communicate their participation in, and alienation from the larger world.
